The Bandits, as part of the Louisiana National Guard use the 199th Leadership Regiment, for our Officer training needs.

Candidates are selected by their respective commanders from units in the State (to include the Louisiana National Guard, USAR, and Active Components) on the basis of both observed leadership, their ability in the enlisted ranks and their overall leadership potential. In addition, there are regulatory guidelines that apply - between the ages of 18 - 30 (maximum age is waiverable up to, but not including, 40 years at the time of graduation), have completed BCT and AIT, have a high school diploma or GED and at least 60 college credit hours at the start of OCS, with 90 college credit hours required for graduation.

Upon entrance into the program, each individual is interviewed by the State OCS Academic Board of Officers in order to confirm that all prerequisites have been met and proper motivation for attendance is evident. This careful selection process is necessary. Individuals who possess the qualifications for OCS training and have the potential to command are a priority requirement of most units (NG, USAR, AC). On acceptance into the OCS program, candidates are attached to the OCS Company, 199 th Leadership Regiment for the duration of the course, and following successful completion, are commissioned as Federally Recognized Second Lieutenants and reassigned as officers to MTOE/TDA units.
